Nada Farhat is a Saudi-born, New York based practicing physician, Associate Professor and visual artist whose work moves between precision and reverie, where close observation meets the poetics of material. Her practice begins with memory, not as a narrative to be told, but as a substance gathered in fragments, carried over time, and returned to the surface through process. Farhat builds organic environments, fields that feel grown rather than constructed, and then activates them with layers that accumulate like lived experience. In these works, pigment, texture, and mark-making behave like strata. Some passages settle quietly, while others break apart, disappear, or re-emerge. The compositions hold a tension between continuity and interruption, echoing how life is formed through repetition, drift, rupture and repair. Working in layered mixed media, Farhat creates surfaces that evoke tapestry through an interplay of density and openness, compression and release. Fragmented recollections are not fixed. They are woven and stitched into provisional coherence, while remaining visibly unresolved, as if the work is still in motion. The result is a tactile cartography of transformation, where what is lost is not erased and what returns does so changed, insisting on renewal, rebirth, and becoming.
